We left English Harbour after a lovely holiday with friends from England.
English Harbour is hard to spot from the sea,but a beautiful sight from Shirley Heights on the site of an old English Fort 145m high.

We had our Christmas dinner BBQ on the beach you can see on the right of the picture but sadly I had a camera breakdown over the last week so have few pictures to share from around this time!

Our sail started at the day before New Years Eve with beautiful sunshine and a fair wind.

Our destination St Kitts was about 40 sea miles and took us past Montserrat still smouldering after an eruption in 1997.We could see the deep ash which had devoured the whole of the south of the island including the main villages. There is a wide exclusion around the island however, we could see the fine ash and Miss Tippy was very dirty from the out fall blown our way.

On the way more fishing brought a Barracuda with very sharp teeth, they are prolific in this area but carry a health warning!
Barracuda

We had read all about Barracuda in Nigel’s book, and learned that they carry ciguetera a toxin which can produce symptoms from upset tummy to those similar to muscular dystrophy and has a 12 % death rate in humans……and they don’t even taste nice, so Fred put him back into the sea.

The sail was idyllic and there was plenty of time for reading for all including the skipper.
