Dec 09 Frigate Birds, Barbuda…. and Tuna!
We loved remote Barbuda and enjoyed the clear sea and beautiful beaches.
It has an amazing Frigate bird colony in a lagoon protected from visiting yachts.
George known as King Goldilocks took us and friends for a thrilling ride in his water taxi.

The children had a boat of their own.

The Frigate birds live on mangroves in a nature sanctary.

It was amazing to see so many flying around us.
Annie was very excited.

The Frigate does not swim or walk and can stay in the air for more than a week without landing.
The female has a white underbelly.

Frigates eat flying fish and baby turtles plucked straight from the sea with their hooked
beaks.
The male has a red gular pouch which it inflates during mating season to attract the female.

Big showoff!

They have little feather oil so do not land in the ocean as are not waterproof!

We had a great day and big thanks to George.

It was time to return to Miss Tippy and leave Barbuda for Antigua.
Our fishing was rewarded by a nice fat tuna for the barbie.

Another Tuna within 20 minutes.

Dinner being prepared….lovely.

We spent the next few days in English harbour for Christmas.
