Lanzarote Halloween
We made costumes all afternoon on ‘Miss Tippy ‘with children from yacht ‘Roundabout’ and had great fun trick or treating. The 17 Blue Water Rally boats had arrived safely from Gibraltar, and were ready to party! Phyllis from ‘Amber Sea’ organised all boats to be ready with the candy, Pink Carol from ‘Bali Blue ‘organised bobbing for apples and her crew joined in the fancy dress as pirates, wizards and a fairy. All of the boats made it the ”best Halloween EVER!” according to the children.

Ken Kirby, our friend and a film producer, left us shortly after arrival but not before giving us all a great lesson in filming that will hold us in good stead as we continue our journey. He was a great crew member and a dab hand at fishing. We will miss him. Sadly, John our teacher also left us in Lanzarote. He’s a great guy and we’re sure he’ll have plenty of adventures in front of him. We wish him well.

Blue Water Rally has organised lots of fun activities while we’ve been here including a coach tour around the South of Lanzarote to Timon Faya. We saw the amazing lunar landscape of over 350 extinct volcanoes with active geysers and hot holes which will ignite bushes when they are thrown in! This gave us a great opportunity for a school project and we even had mashed potato and bean volcanoes for tea that night!

Walking on hot volcanic rock!

The kids also wanted ‘underwater’ school and we found a beautiful, secluded but rocky, swimming area where they can snorkel and swim to their heart’s content.

We had a long guided walk along to the oldest part of Lanzarote in the South. This part of the island arose from the sea 40 million years ago. More recently the island increased by a third in size following 6 years of uninterrupted volcanic activity in the 1700′s. The scenery was stunning as we trekked along narrow coastal footpaths with waves crashing on the rocks below!

Annie has taken up photography.

We’re enjoying the beautiful and hospitable marina at Puerto Calero and now feel relaxed and ready for our trip to Antigua.
